60 Minutes Pre-Empted September 27 2026 for VMAs
CBS viewers expecting 60 Minutes on Sunday, September 27, 2026 will see a very different program in its place.
The network has preempted 60 Minutes for the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, which air live from Los Angeles following CBS’s NFL doubleheader.
The awards ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. ET and 4:30 p.m. PT and runs for two hours.
The VMAs Take Over CBS Sunday Night
CBS has increasingly used its network schedule for major live events, and September 27 is one of those nights.
The 2026 VMAs will be simulcast on CBS and MTV, placing the awards show in one of the network’s highest-profile Sunday-night windows.
Because NFL coverage occupies the earlier portion of the evening, there is no available slot for 60 Minutes before the VMAs begin.
No New 60 Minutes Stories This Week
The preemption means there is no September 27 60 Minutes episode, no segment lineup and no correspondent roster for the night.
Viewers searching for new reports from Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker, Norah O’Donnell, Jon Wertheim, Ross Douthat or the rest of the Season 59 team will have to wait for the next scheduled broadcast.
CBS’s official 60 Minutes page continues to list the program’s normal broadcast time as Sundays from 7:00–8:00 p.m. ET/PT, making September 27 a special-event exception.
What Aired on 60 Minutes Last Week?
The September 20 episode featured three very different reports.
Ross Douthat interviewed Patrick Clancy and Dr. Rachel Danis, Norah O’Donnell examined the expansion of AI data centres in rural Texas, and Jon Wertheim revisited the mystery surrounding the kidnapping and disappearance of champion racehorse Shergar.
There will be no comparable newsmagazine broadcast on September 27 because of the VMA preemption.

The September 27 absence is simply a one-night preemption caused by CBS’s live awards-show schedule.
