60 Minutes Reports on “A Lonely Voice”, “The Mystery of the Eagle S” & “Dana White” September 28 2025

CBS kicks off the 58th season of 60 Minutes with a powerful lineup of stories airing Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 7:30-8:30 PM ET / 7:00-8:00 PM PT, immediately following NFL Football. Viewers can also stream the broadcast on Paramount+. This season premiere features three distinct and hard-hitting segments — ranging from the aftermath of political violence to a shadowy act of suspected sabotage, and a deep dive into the world of combat sports.

A Lonely Voice

Scott Pelley leads the hour with a timely and sobering interview with Utah Governor Spencer Cox. In the wake of the shocking assassination of political commentator Charlie Kirk, Cox delivered a message that few expected — a call for unity and civility at a time when political tension continues to simmer across the U.S.

What makes this story particularly compelling is that Cox’s appeal runs counter to the tone of many in his own party. Pelley visits Utah to understand why the governor felt compelled to speak out and explores the backlash he’s facing. The segment addresses broader concerns about the rise in political violence, the fragility of civil discourse, and what free speech looks like in today’s America. Maria Gavrilovic produced the story.

The Mystery of the Eagle S

Next, correspondent Bill Whitaker reports from the Baltic Sea region on an alarming development tied to global security. The Eagle S, a Russian-owned shadow fleet oil tanker, caused widespread disruption after dragging its anchor and damaging undersea cables linking Finland and Estonia.

What appears at first as an accident takes on darker implications, as a 60 Minutes investigation reveals that the Eagle S is not the only vessel involved in similar incidents. With rising suspicions of Russian hybrid warfare targeting critical infrastructure, NATO has launched “Baltic Sentry,” a new mission designed to monitor and defend undersea assets. Oriana Zill de Granados produced the segment, which delves into the growing geopolitical tensions under the waves.

Dana White

Rounding out the episode, Jon Wertheim sits down with Dana White, the outspoken and often controversial president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. With more than 25 years at the helm, White has transformed what was once a fringe spectacle into a global $15 billion sports empire.

From his early battles for legitimacy to his close friendship with former President Donald Trump, White opens up about his rise, his critics, and his future — including plans for a 2026 UFC fight night on the White House lawn. This candid profile looks at White’s place in what some call the “manosphere” and the cultural impact of mixed martial arts. Nathalie Sommer is the producer behind this segment.

The 60 Minutes season premiere promises an intense, wide-ranging hour of journalism that reflects the political, international, and cultural currents shaping the world today. From high-level interviews to investigative reporting and profile pieces, CBS delivers a signature blend of relevance and depth.
