60 Minutes Reports on “The Capital of Free Russia” & “Healing Justice” on March 17 2024

This Sunday March 17 2024 on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” viewers can anticipate two compelling segments that delve into the realms of political exile and the quest for justice.

The Capital of Free Russia

The first piece, titled “The Capital of Free Russia,” presents an in-depth look at the precarious situation surrounding Russia’s 2024 presidential election. With Vladimir Putin’s political adversaries facing dire consequences—ranging from death to exile—correspondent Scott Pelley travels to Vilnius, Lithuania. This city has emerged as a sanctuary for some of Russia’s most outspoken dissidents, who have chosen safety in exile over the perils of opposition within their homeland. Produced by Henry Schuster, this segment promises to shed light on the struggles and resilience of those who dare to defy one of the world’s most formidable leaders.

Healing Justice

In a departure from its typical format, “60 Minutes” revisits a story it first covered 15 years ago in the double-length segment “Healing Justice.” Lesley Stahl reports on the journey of Jennifer Thompson, a rape victim who discovered that the man convicted of her assault was, in fact, innocent. This revelation comes amid a growing number of DNA exonerations that have exposed flaws in the justice system. Thompson, feeling that crime victims are often overlooked or even blamed when errors in justice occur, founded Healing Justice. This organization fosters a unique environment where the wrongfully convicted, victims, and their families can come together for intensive retreats aimed at sharing experiences and embarking on a collective healing process. Shari Finkelstein’s production invites viewers to witness these powerful stories of forgiveness and understanding.

Tune in to CBS from 7:00-8:00 PM ET/PT this Sunday for a night of thought-provoking television that explores the depths of human resilience and the complex quest for justice.
