60 Minutes Reports on “Patrick Clancy”, “AI Data Centers” & “Shergar, Where Are You?” on September 20 2026

CBS’ 60 Minutes returns Sunday, September 20, 2026, with three very different reports, including an emotional interview with Patrick Clancy, an investigation into the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence data centers and a new look at one of the most enduring mysteries in horse racing history.

The episode airs Sunday from 7:00-8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and will also be available on Paramount+.

Patrick Clancy Speaks in First Television Interview

In one of the night’s most personal reports, Patrick Clancy gives his first television interview, speaking with 60 Minutes just weeks after his ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy, was on trial in the closely followed case involving the deaths of their three children.

Correspondent Ross Douthat sits down with Clancy for an extensive conversation about his life following the deaths of his children and the extraordinary public attention surrounding the case.

Rather than focusing solely on the courtroom proceedings, the interview will give Clancy an opportunity to talk about his grief and his memories of his children. He also discusses the intense reaction the case generated online after it became national news.

The report examines another dimension of a tragedy that has been discussed extensively on social media, where strangers have debated the case and the people at its center.

Clancy will be joined during the interview by his new wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, as 60 Minutes explores how he has attempted to move forward while continuing to live with the loss of his children.

Michael Karzis is the producer of the segment.

AI Data Centers Transform Rural Texas

Another report turns to one of the fastest-growing consequences of the artificial intelligence boom: the enormous infrastructure required to support it.

Norah O’Donnell travels to rural Texas to examine the rapid construction and expansion of AI data centers and the effect those developments are having on surrounding communities.

The facilities have become an increasingly contentious political issue. While new data centers can bring investment and economic development to communities, their arrival can also produce opposition from residents concerned about the consequences of large-scale development.

60 Minutes examines how that debate has crossed traditional political lines. Opposition to data center projects has brought together Democrats and Republicans, making the issue a flashpoint during the midterm election season.

O’Donnell’s report looks at the competing interests behind the boom: technology companies seeking the infrastructure needed for increasingly powerful AI systems, communities interested in jobs and investment, and residents questioning what those developments could mean for the places where they live.

The result is a local debate with much broader implications as demand for computing capacity continues to grow alongside the expansion of artificial intelligence.

Roxanne Feitel is the producer.

Shergar, Where Are You? Revisits Racing’s Greatest Mystery

The final report takes 60 Minutes back more than four decades to the extraordinary disappearance of Shergar, the champion racehorse whose kidnapping became one of Ireland’s most famous unsolved mysteries.

Correspondent Jon Wertheim revisits the case and speaks with people closely connected to the events surrounding Shergar’s disappearance.

Shergar was one of the most celebrated racehorses of his era when he was kidnapped in Ireland in the early 1980s. What happened afterward has remained the subject of speculation and competing theories for decades.

Rather than simply retelling the familiar story, Wertheim explores those theories through firsthand accounts from people closest to the case, looking again at what is known about the kidnapping and the questions that remain unanswered.

More than 40 years later, Shergar’s ultimate fate remains a mystery, giving the story an enduring place not only in horse racing history but in Irish popular culture.

Nathalie Sommer and Kaylee Tully are the producers of the report.
