Under Siege
The opening segment investigates a growing concern within the American judicial system: the increasing threats directed at federal judges. According to a 60 Minutes investigation, judges who have ruled against the Trump administration have become prominent targets of criticism and intimidation.
Correspondent Bill Whitaker speaks with 26 federal judges, including both Democratic and Republican appointees, as well as active and retired members of the judiciary. Their comments reveal deep concerns about personal safety, judicial independence, and the long-term health of the nation’s democratic institutions.
Many of the judges interviewed describe feeling under constant pressure as political tensions continue to spill into the courtroom. The report examines how escalating rhetoric and public scrutiny are affecting those tasked with interpreting and upholding the law, regardless of political affiliation.
Produced by Heather Abbott, this segment offers a rare and revealing look at the challenges facing members of the federal bench at a particularly turbulent moment in American politics.
Turning the Ship Around
The second report focuses on a major economic and national security issue: the decline of the American shipbuilding industry. Once a global leader in maritime construction, the United States now produces only a handful of large commercial cargo ships each year, while China dominates the industry on a massive scale.
Correspondent Lesley Stahl travels to South Korea and Philadelphia to examine efforts to reverse decades of decline. The report highlights Hanwha, one of South Korea’s largest shipbuilding companies, which is investing in the future of American shipbuilding through its acquisition and revitalization of the Philadelphia shipyard.
Viewers will see firsthand how advanced shipbuilding operations function in South Korea and learn why American leaders increasingly view domestic ship production as a strategic priority. The segment explores the challenges of rebuilding an industrial workforce, modernizing facilities, and competing in a rapidly evolving global marketplace.
Produced by Shachar Bar-On and Jinsol Jung, the report offers an in-depth look at whether international partnerships could help restore a critical American industry.
The Dog Aging Project
The final segment turns to science and medicine with a fascinating examination of the Dog Aging Project, a nationwide research initiative that could unlock important discoveries about aging and disease.
Correspondent Anderson Cooper reports on the project, which has enrolled more than 50,000 dogs across the United States. Researchers are studying canine health, genetics, behavior, and aging patterns to better understand conditions that affect both dogs and humans, including Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Scientists involved in the project have found striking similarities between canine and human aging. Dogs develop many of the same age-related illnesses as people, and their brain structures share important characteristics that make them valuable partners in medical research.
The report explores how information gathered from thousands of participating pets may help researchers identify ways to extend healthy lifespans and improve quality of life. The findings could eventually lead to new treatments and preventative strategies benefiting both humans and their four-legged companions.
Produced by Denise Schrier Cetta, this segment highlights the unique role that dogs may play in advancing the future of aging research.
A Diverse Night of Reporting
This updated encore edition of 60 Minutes showcases the program’s trademark mix of investigative journalism, international reporting, and scientific discovery. From the pressures facing federal judges to the future of American manufacturing and the search for answers about aging, the broadcast covers a wide range of subjects with significant national and global implications.
