60 Minutes Reports on “Healing Justice” & “One Small Step” on July 21 2024

“60 Minutes” presents a special post-season edition, airing on Sunday, July 21, 2024, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM ET/PT on CBS. This episode, divided into two powerful segments, delves into stories of resilience, compassion, and the profound impacts of dialogue and understanding.

Healing Justice

In an emotionally charged return to a story from 2009, Lesley Stahl revisits the life of Jennifer Thompson. Thompson’s journey began with a harrowing error of justice—wrongly identifying a man who was then imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Now a fervent advocate, Thompson has created Healing Justice, an organization dedicated to facilitating healing retreats. These retreats are unique gatherings that bring together the wrongfully convicted, crime victims, and their families, aiming to foster healing and understanding. Stahl’s segment explores the transformative experiences of these individuals and the pivotal role of Healing Justice in their lives, in a special double-length segment produced by Shari Finkelstein.

One Small Step

Norah O’Donnell meets with Dave Isay, the founder of StoryCorps and the mind behind the initiative “One Small Step.” This new project seeks to bridge the growing political divides in America by fostering face-to-face conversations between people with opposing viewpoints. Through these dialogues, “One Small Step” strives to cultivate a sense of shared humanity and understanding. Produced by Keith Sharman, this segment sheds light on the potential of open, honest communication to heal and unite in an increasingly polarized world.
